Teased at E3 2009, Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360, formerly known as Project Natal, is a new way to interact with the Xbox 360 without the use of a controller and will work with all current Xbox 360s.
The Kinect RGB camera connects to the Xbox 360 and has 3D depth sensors which not only detects 48 points of motion, but also audio and is able to recognize voices and faces.
When in the Xbox 360 Dashboard, simply wave and Kinect will recognize you and sign you in. Wave again and a controller free menu will be displayed of things you are able to do on your Xbox 360. You can either use your hands or use your voice to select something from the menu - if you can see it, just say it.
Control Zune with Kinect
A new way to interact with multimedia
Kinect for Xbox 360 is designed to work with Zune for an entirely new way to control your media, both movies and music. You can use your hands or use your voice to pause, play, stop, switch tracks, etc. Kinect will also be able to work with other existing apps on Xbox 360 such as Facebook, Netflix, last.fm, and more.
Video Chat with Video Kinect
A new addition to the Xbox 360 will be Video Kinect which allows you to video chat with people with Xbox Live or through Windows Live Messenger. Kinect's built in motion sensor will automatically track and follow you as you move around the room, without having to manually adjust the camera. With Video Kinect, there is a menu at the bottom which will allow you and the person you're talking with to view news, sports, TV, movies, and music together. As with other Kinect compatible applications, you can simply use a voice command to end the chat.
Watch Sports with ESPN for 360
Also coming to the Xbox 360 is ESPN for 360 which allows you to watch thousands of sporting events. Simply control the action with a wave of your hand or voice. Participate in interactive polls, trivia, predictions and be able to replay plays made by your favorite teams.
Games for Kinect
Not only does Kinect help you control your multimedia, but also allows you to play games in ways you've never played them before. Stay tuned for a future hub on games designed for Kinect.
